Data Availability Statement

BHSS requires all research articles to include a Data Availability Statement at the time of submission.

Authors must select at least one of the standardized Data Availability Statement options below and provide additional details as required. If multiple data conditions apply, authors may select more than one statement.

The statement will be published under the heading “Data Availability Statement” within the article.

Authors are encouraged to follow recognized best practices in research transparency and reproducibility when preparing their statements.

Data are available in a public, open-access repository

If research data are deposited in a publicly accessible repository, authors must provide:

  • The name of the repository

  • A persistent identifier (DOI or permanent URL)

  • Any conditions for reuse (e.g., license terms or embargo periods)

All publicly available datasets referenced in the manuscript must be properly cited in both the main text and reference list, regardless of whether the data were generated by the authors or obtained from other sources.

Examples of suitable repositories include institutional repositories, subject-specific archives, and recognized open data platforms.

Data are available upon reasonable request

If data are not publicly available but may be shared upon request, authors must specify:

  • The nature of the data (e.g., anonymized survey responses, interview transcripts, field notes, coded datasets)

  • Who may be contacted to request access (including publishable contact details, such as an institutional email address or ORCID identifier, with permission)

  • Any conditions governing access or reuse

Authors should also indicate whether supporting materials such as research instruments, protocols, coding frameworks, or analysis plans are available.

Data obtained from third parties

If the data were obtained from a third party and are not publicly available, authors must clearly state:

  • What the data consist of

  • Who controls access to the data

  • Contact information (with permission) for data access

  • Any applicable reuse conditions

Additional documentation (e.g., data use agreements, access policies) should be described where relevant.

All relevant data are included in the article or supplementary materials

If all data supporting the findings of the study are included in the article or provided as supplementary files, authors should state this clearly.

Authors must ensure that no confidential, personal, or identifiable information is disclosed in publicly shared datasets unless explicit consent has been obtained.

No data available / Not applicable

If the study did not generate or analyze datasets (e.g., theoretical articles, conceptual analyses, literature reviews, opinion pieces), authors must state:

“Not applicable. No datasets were generated or analyzed during the current study.”

If data sharing is not applicable due to the nature of the study, authors must also state “Not applicable” in the submission form.

Confidentiality and Ethical Considerations

For research involving human participants, authors must ensure that shared data are:

  • Fully anonymized

  • Compliant with institutional ethics approval

  • Shared in accordance with informed consent agreements

The journal reserves the right to request clarification regarding data availability and may require authors to revise statements for clarity or compliance.
